Tassili n'Ajjer (Berber: Tassili n Ajjer, "Plateau of rivers") is a mountain range in the Sahara desert, located in south-eastern Algeria. It holds one of the most important groupings of prehistoric cave art in the world and covers an area of more than 72,000 km2 (28, 000 sq mi). The site has been designated a national park and a Biosphere Reserve, and was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1982. The literal English translation of Tassili n'Ajjer is 'plateau of rivers'.
