Medomsley Detention Centre

Medomsley Detention Centre was a prison for young male offenders in the village of Medomsley, near Consett in Durham, England, from 1961 until the late 1980s. More than 1,800 living former inmates have reported sexual and physical abuse by staff. Police believe many of the staff belonged to a child sex abuse ring. Seven former officers were jailed for abusing detainees, receiving sentences totalling nearly 34 years. Two were convicted of sexual offences in 1990, 2003 and 2005, while the other five were jailed for physical abuse in 2019.
