Kōwhai Park Solar Farm

The Kōwhai Park Solar Farm is a photovoltaic power station under construction at Christchurch Airport in Canterbury, New Zealand. The farm will be owned by a joint venture between Contact Energy and Lightsource BP. When complete the farm will cover 300 hectares and generate 150 MW of electricity. The project was first announced in December 2021. In February 2023 Christchurch airport announced Contact Energy and Lightsource as its partners to develop and operate the solar farm. Finance was agreed in August 2024, and construction began the same month. The first row of panels was installed in August 2025. The solar farm is expected to be operational by mid 2026.
