Goharshad Mosque

The Goharshad Mosque (Masjed-e Guharshād) is a grand Shi'ite Friday mosque that is part of the Imam Reza Shrine complex, located in Mashhad, in the province of Razavi Khorasan, Iran. It was commissioned by Empress Goharshad, the wife of Sultan Shah Rukh during the Timurid Empire. Construction began in 1418 CE and was completed around 1430 CE. Due to its exquisite tilework, masterful calligraphy, and outstanding architecture, the Goharshad Mosque is regarded as a masterpiece of Persian architecture from the Timurid era. Owing to its extensive religious endowments (waqf) and its proximity to the Imam Reza Holy Shrine, it is also one of Iran's most important and busiest mosques, Some even consider it the most visited mosque in the country.
