Kengoshizuka Kofun

Kengoshizuka Kofun is a Kofun period burial mound, located in the Koshi neighborhood of the village of Asuka, Nara in the Kansai region of Japan. The tumulus was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1923, with the area under protection expanded in 2014 and again in 2015, together with the nearby Koshitsukagomon Kofun. It is most likely the tomb for Empress Saimei (also known as Empress Kōgyoku) the 35th and 37th monarch of Japan, and her daughter, Princess Hashihito. The tumulus is also called the "Asagao Kofun" from an alternative reading of the kanji in its name.
