Engelszell Abbey

Engelszell Abbey (Stift Engelszell) was the last Trappist monastery in Austria. It is located near Engelhartszell in the Innviertel in Upper Austria. In May 2023, the community of Engelszell was suppressed (ordered to be closed) by the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. With only four monks left, it was determined that it was no longer able to maintain a Trappist life within the monastery.
