Banks Island is an island on the coast of the Canadian province of British Columbia, it is 72 km (45 mi) long, and ranges in width from 9.7 to 18 km (6.0 to 11.2 mi). The island is 1,034.18 km2 (399.30 sq mi) in area, and reaches 536 m (1, 759 ft) in elevation. Banks island is located within the North Coast Regional District, and is situated south of Prince Rupert, on Hecate Strait, east of and opposite Haida Gwaii. To its east is Pitt Island and McCauley Island, both across Principe Channel. To its west is Bonilla Island. To its south lies the archipelago of the Estevan Group, beyond which is Caamaño Sound.
