Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage Sanctuary

Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage, or simply Le Bocage, is a Catholic sanctuary in Caraquet, New Brunswick (Canada). Built on the land bequeathed by Alexis Landry in 1791, the sanctuary includes a chapel, a Stations of the Cross, a well, a fountain, a cemetery, and monuments, all set in a bocage. The chapel, one of the oldest Acadian places of worship, is also an enigma. The exact reason for its construction is unknown, but it is linked to the historical quarrel between the inhabitants of the east and west of the town. The sanctuary became a place of pilgrimage in the second half of the 19th century, and is still very popular with both locals and tourists.
